STRATEGY GROUP MEETING

Updated: Sep 27

The strategy group met on Wednesday 25th September with all members in attendance, along with a couple of expert guests.  The executive team members produced a report in advance showing the activity of EMCAT over the past few months, as well as the anticipated activity and projects over the coming period.

This includes engagement with Google, as well as with various other regulators in the UK.

The group advised on focusing on the twin aims of enabling Google advertising by cleaning-up the practices in the sector which have led to this being banned.  And also to advocate for transparency around hidden referral fees, and to bring practices into line with ethical norms in other industries.  The strategy group advised that EMCAT’s executive team could begin to play a more formal role in writing to providers who are openly engaging in unethical activities, and warn them of the implications and concerns that others feel around their practice.

There was some advice provided around the steps that EMCAT could take to inform the media and the government about its activity. We remain dedicated to raising standards in addiction treatment marketing across the UK, with a mission to promote and advocate for a code of conduct that ensures ethical marketing practices.
